It can also be an allergy symptom but I would expect hair loss elsewhere such as on the back of the front legs. My old lab was like this and I thought mange but the skin scrapes came back normal.

Its interesting that a couple of you mention nasty cover could be the cause. She is the hardest going dog i have ever seen in the thickest of brambles and she does it at a hundred miles an hour which is worse again. I will get her checked out just in case it is something else.

Has she come back from hunting recently with the area around her eyes red raw?

so the rapeseed oil question was for a possible cure for dry skin around the eyes? is this dry flaky skin, is the fur still there? is there any signs of weeping, perhaps as suggested by rascal if the skin is red raw,
There is no simple answer without all the facts in detail :)

ya the skin is dry and flaky.there is hair there but it is thin . I bought this dog a couple of months ago thats why i am a little unsure whether she suffers from dry skin in general or whether it is being caused by something else..
