Many thanks for the write-up - loved the atmospheric geese - and every dog worked really well for you!

A cracking read, i've been rough shooting 23 years as i cannot afford driven on a frequent basis and to be honest imo rough shooting is where it's at, getting to see your dog/dogs doing what they are bred to do. If only more shoots were willing to cater for the rough shooter

I enjoy driven shooting as well, although I am always first to volunteer for walking gun or remote peg rather than stand in a line but rough shooting suits me best. A lot of shoots are starting to recognise this gap in the market and provide walked-up days. What I like most in having my own shoot (and its not cheap!) is lack of formality and I can come and go as I wish. Some days the ground is totally unproductive but days like the one mentioned here more than make up for that. It does have a couple of bonus point as well - firstly there is a 10,000 bird pheasant shoot only half a mile away secondly it is one of the best woodcock areas in the county - so roll on November!
