Stools are soft?
Hello
I got my new 15 month old Springer Spaniel just over a week ago. I have been feeding her on Skinners Duck & Rice. Her stools aren't runny as such, but they're not hard either. They are definitely on the soft and sloppy side (sorry for the graphic description!)
I'm new to this game... should I leave her on the Skinners and see how things fair up, or should I be looking at a different food?
I'm not sure what she was on before she came to me, but it wasn't Skinners - it was a 'meal' based food though.
Thanks

Re: Stools are soft?
I would say that if you've only had her for a week and changed her diet totally from what she was eating before, that is not an unusual result. Ideally you'd want to add slowly from old food to new food and let her get accustomed over a few days. I would certainly keep an eye on her and it there is no change over the next day or so, consult a vet. Forum diagnosis is not ideal.Si Withington wrote:Hello

Re: Stools are soft?
Give it half as much food, you could be over feeding

It's to be expected with any change of food, not to mention the change of her entire world.
cheers,
Alice.

Re: Stools are soft?
duck & rice did not suit one of my spaniels, now feed skinners salmon & rice ,much better end result,i even mix the new bags of salmon & rice with some of the old bag in case of any slight ingredient change
Re: Stools are soft?
put her on raw and see the difference.as long as im a live my dogs will never see dry/wet dog food again.
Re: Stools are soft?
In what way were they different and what did you feed before?
Are these raw or kibble fed?

It doesn't have to be raw nor does it have to be commercial dog food, you do need to feed what suits your particular dog.
In the OP's case its probs just a change of circumstance and change of food.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
Re: Stools are soft?
perhaps it may be an idea to ask what is being fed, when, and how? Feeding raw isn't an option for some!
