You tell em Naj, cause they won't listen to me.

A wise man once told me that a clicker trained retrieve was similar to the fun of having a mistress and 'force fetch' was like your wife... you'll have fun for awhile but mix the two, in the end you're f##ked !

I am she. :snooty:

Of course you can mix it, doesn't everybody spend an hour trying to teach the clicker hold and then open the dog's gob, ram the dummy in and shout "effin hold it!"

Sorry, Tharras, the thread seems to have degenerated somewhat. Its obviously Friday, Bank Holiday week-end too, no hope of anything sane on here. :-D

Yep, that's about the truth of it !

Even a clickered retrieve can get messed up if your timing is wrong. I used a clicker to get a good delivery with one dog, clicked at the wrong instant in time a few times and made him hard mouthed on canvas dummies. He bit so hard the sawdust fell out ! Fortunately that sort of trained behaviour suffers an "extinction event" if you leave retrieving ....and clicking , alone for a while. Make a muck-up with F.F. and you really are in trouble.

Shock / Horror / Hold the press!
Do you mean clicker training doesn't actually work unless you do it right?
Does clicker training teaching the hold wrongly lead to hard mouth ?

Not many things do work if you don't do them right.

Brings us back to the subtle nuances of training...timing and watching the dog. Methods, as we know, only provide the transportation.
