Kennel Security
There have been a considerable amount of dog thefts in the South West just recently and wondered what measures people take to secure their kennels. Baring in mind that most of us are not commercial trainers but do kennel our dogs so they are generally in wooden kennels. Mine have padlocks on the doors and a security light with a movement sensor. also my eldest barks at anyone who comes in the garden.
Cameras are expensive but effective. I thought about fitting a baby alarm in there I have also seen some fairly cheap (about £30) WiFi cameras that link to your PC and also phone, but Im not sure about the range.
What do other people do?

Re: Kennel Security
I've thought about this long and hard, if they want the dog they will take it. A reasonable degree of security via padlocks etc is an inconvenience to regular access to the kennel.
depending on the location electric surveillance or alarm I think is the answer, however in rural areas they are about as much use as trying to secure a fart in a colander.
barking dogs and vigilant neighbours can have their uses

Re: Kennel Security
Where I live (personal) security is a huge issue. If you are looking to protect your dogs from being stolen in the UK context I would do two things;
1. Put in a good audible alarm siren that is linked to all opening doors and vents so that a loud siren will sound when anything is opened when the kennel is locked up and the alarm activated.
2. Put up some prominent signage that states "CCTV cameras are in operation on this site"

Re: Kennel Security
I've just been reading an article in this months "Sporting Gun" about kennel security and they mention an alarm gun which uses blank shotgun cartridges. I understand that these are designed for release pens to keep foxes away. Is there use on kennels in your garden allowed from a legal position? And there not that expensive http://www.williampowell.com/Shooting-- ... _MA101.htm

When you read of the guy on here that got into all sorts of bother using a dummy launcher and ending up accepting a caution (which he shouldn't have done) whilst training his Gundog, lord knows what the police would say.....
I happen to think that the steps we take to protect our dogs are best not plastered about on an open forum on the Internet TBH or in gundog magazines but that's just MHO...Lets face it the people that perpetrate these crimes can read and it's just the sort of place they would frequent...
Knowing me, I'd trip over the damn thing anyway...

Re: Kennel Security
Someone tried to break into my kennels last night, thankfully my padlocks on the kennels held up.
I've literally just installed an alarm motion sensor today and replaced with new padlocks....
I cant figure out if it was an opportunist or planned, only 1 kennel was targeted and that had 2 bitch pups in......
Just goes to show......

We have a Motorola Scout Camera which links up to mobile or tablet ... good price and you can check up on dogs whilst out etc ... has night vision, sound and you can also speak to your dogs through it ! ... great when they are being a bit mouthy !

Do you have the external Scout 73? If so does it need to be plugged into the mains and is there a cable provided to do this as i cant find any information on the cable provided anywhere on the net.Hanrebor wrote:We have a Motorola Scout Camera which links up to mobile or tablet ... good price and you can check up on dogs whilst out etc ... has night vision, sound and you can also speak to your dogs through it ! ... great when they are being a bit mouthy !.. you can move the camera around the kennels etc ... lots of other gimmics too !! great piece of kit for £50.00 !
I would need a 10 metre cable at least.
