KENNEL COUGH (BORDETELLA)

Post by PrairieBoy »

Just became aware of a new procedure with my 4 month old lab pup.

First Kennel Cough vaccination is nasal.
If pup is at high risk (puppy classes, kennels, field trial) a booster injection for kennel cough is given one month later.
Thereafter, a yearly booster injection.

Not sure if this is new or I am out of touch.

The first part still is, followed by the jab

Oh, haven't had a puppy done, only adult dog. I see in pups first is nasal and then 2 more by injection!

Adult dogs receive annual booster jabs.

It should be noted that handlers of sniffer dogs will give their dog two weeks off duty after the jab due to loss of acuity of smell for about two weeks. So give the booster in the spring as opposed to just before a field trial.
