I have had a couple of dogs that faffed about with woodpigeon retrieves. One of them was my present Brittany. She went pigeon shooting with me last February and made a mess of the first couple of birds.....feathers all over the place. Then she got the hang of it and was fine after that.

Just be careful when u actually come to start working ur dog in the picking up line, u can very easily ruin a yound dog picking up esp if u have no older dogs to do the more difficult retrieves and runners.

If you've been asked to be part of a team, explain yours and your dog's lack of experience to the picker up in charge and let them take you under thier wing until you and your dog are confident in what's required, oh and enjoy!
