Thank you for the replies. He would have no interest in picking up a cold rabbit. I did try when lamping walking away and the first time after two field he was behind but it took a bit of cat and mouse the second time he was behind me and no rabbit. So i decided that maybe wasn't the best way as it was teaching him to avoid me when I stopped he turned around. As a rule he walks say ten yards and thats it and is happy for me to take it

i had something very similar with my Bertie, he is now 3 and he is still a little wary and does not give up easy, and yet when i sit down at home he brings STUFF to me all the time, it really weird and yet sooo frustrating.
He also used to growl and i have to say the best thing is to turn and walk away ignore him , as i did the opposite initially and confronted and thats a mistake. You really need to work hard to get it right imho as it manifests if not checked.
I took bertie to a pro and he coaxed him along to bring back dummies which he would always be possessive with, that has gotten better but not ideal, now on live game and he brings it straight back however now suddenly he spits it a yard to go
. but its been a long long road at a great cost.!!!
So my advise is (and i am no expert) really coax him in with silly voice stay low to the ground, and as others have said walk him round the garden on the lead with something in his mouth stop sit lots of praise then carry on and repeat then once in a while sit him up take it out of his moth (good boy) then put it back in "hold" and walk on 5 mins twice a day, cant do any harm!! just gets him used to giving up and getting back, at the end take it and dont give back but gets a treat.
3 years of "hell" trust me sort it now.
