A no-slip retriever is, strictly speaking, a dedicated retriever - one that isn't used for hunting up un-shot game. The Retrieving breeds were originally bred to be no-slip retrievers. ;)

Non-slip basically means shooting without a slip lead... ie a trained dog

Mine did that last week when I was shooting but as her lead was tied to my stick she is really a "none none slip retriever"

Anyway I think I get it now, flamin clever of me to start a post without knowing it.
Muddling along in the hope that one day it starts to make sense.

Correctemundo, Naj - and it ain't a term that came from the cousins, either - just as "Hie on!" was of y'all's doing for spaniels afield, not ours.

Cass, question: is your dog a nonslip spaniel or a "vested interest (in waterfowling) spaniel?"

My notion of a nonslip spaniel is one what don't slip on snow and ice (or crags) in making a retrieve -

had a fair handful of those nonslippers...

It's America for god's sake Judy. It's on the side of the earth - to the west of the motherland. Of course the water is not horizontal. Look at a globe. :)
