Remember th Gat gun. :-D bit surprised you gave up shooting to train dogs. To me the two are complimentary. Can't imagine shooting without a dog or having a dog without shooting over it.

Me too, apart from the last one, I just envy them.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Someone who cannot work due to an injury, has decided to breed Labradors as his living! Already has a large Chocolate Lab, has bought two Black bitches and one Yellow bitch and as far as I know there is nothing special about them.

All I wanted to make my life complete aged 13 was a proper cardinal reel and a weirauch HW35E. I didn't get either until I was much older and could buy them myself. If there was a crying smilie I would put it here.
I had a hw35, not the "e" which, I think, had a longer barrel? Great air rifle, wish I still had it.
It did and a monte carlo stock. I finally got one second hand at an auction, I asked an older mate who was pretty handy to put a new spring in it, I can see him now admiring it and saying "How the b*****y hell did the Germans loose when they could make stuff like this".

Didn't make me go GRRRRR more ????????????????????? this morning I saw a bloke with dark glasses and carrying a white stick cycling down the road, he was a bit wobbly.

Another thing that make me grrrrrr is the price of old English side by sides dreamed of owning an English gun in my younger years but could never afford one, now I am to bleeding knackered to use one you can pick them up for less than a couple of hundred pounds
And I still have my Gat gun, you can shoot at the barn door with it and miss the barn.

My first decent air-rifle was a B.S.A. Airsporter I bought 2nd hand at age 16-17 for £7. It was one of the older models with the tap that opened as you cocked the underlever. I killed rats, grey squirrels, rabbits, woodpigeons and crows with it and it's open sights. It even killed two hares stone dead with head shots. I thought those sights were superb and fired so many pellets through it that I just sort of "knew" how much holdover to give it at various ranges up to about 60 yards. I swapped it for a single barrel Cooey shotgun with a small hole in the barrel that sort of whistled when the gun was fired !

It also often fired in such a way as to make the shot fly in a solid lump ! I got rid of it as soon as I could afford something a bit better.

My next most favourite air rifle, I've had at least a dozen, was a .200 pump up Sheridan fitted with a Singlepoint sight. I managed to shoot flying crows with that gun . It was light and it was very accurate but pumping it up was a real chore.

Don't get me started on fishing tackle. I've been a tackle tart all my life and was more than a wee bit annoyed when my wife chucked the first reel I ever bought at age 10 - 11 out in the bucket about a week ago. It was an aluminium center pin and it got used for trout fishing, coarse fishing and sea fishing. I think it cost 2 shillings and 3 pence brand new............about 11-12 p in modern money.
