The loudest boo's come from the cheapest seats James, does my nut in. Rich is a lovely guy and does not deserve how he has been treated.
The man put his head above the parapit and for that people should be thankful.
We are covering Richard and Sweep in the 2nd edition of the magazine, lets put these two back on the pedestal where they belong and not in the gutter.
Why is it that cross contamination was never questioned when many other people have posted clear results? So why question this one? And you tell us this isn't a witch hunt.....
You obviously did not read Jeffiners post. The validity of the test was clearly being questioned.
And then you have the cheek to suggest the original statement of carriers producing clears was 'shady'? PLEASE explain, I'm dying to know what you mean.....
You say in your post to be careful about 'singing from the rooftops'. Having read the threads, it has been called 'good news'. I don't see anybody singing from the rooftops...??
Just shows how incredibly behind the times spaniel breeders are when the guy who tests his dog and discovers a carrier is castigated as much as the man who finds a clear.
Labrador breeders were discovering carriers, and learning to work with them rather than ostracize them while I was still at school.
I've been the subject of accusation myself, by people who had carrier dogs, and so wanted everyone else to have them too, so I know how important it is to have everything out in the open, leaving no one any room to gossip. Best way to stop gossip is to prove that it's false.
I must agree with you all. Without your posts, anyone new coming into working gundogs or trialling must wonder what they are getting themselves into! This has not only been damaging to the sport, but has huge potential to damage the breed.
The only issue here is a lack of understanding of genetics. End of. No-one seems to understand it's fine to breed from a carrier if you breed to a clear dog. No-one seems to understand the possible outcomes for crossing various combinations of affected, clear and carrier or the associated probability. No-one seems to understand the risk is individual to each pup, the litter is NOT considered as a whole.
A clear, concise explanation of the inheritance of single gene traits and the breeding implications would clear a lot of the murkiness surrounding testing.
That is all understood. My point is that we know the results of 2 of the 3 pups, and they already go against the statistics. It seems as though the gossipers cannot deal with that, and so a question of whether the tests have been contaminated is asked. Therefore why has this question not been asked about every other tested dogs results?
Anybody that has tested their dogs KNOW how to test correctly, and UNDERSTAND all that can be understood about AMS. That doesn't need to be explained.
Finally, there is blatantly bullying going on here and it needs to be addressed. Surely it is no one else's concern apart from the breeder and the buyer of the pups. The people that are claiming this is all in the breed and dogs interest, I'm afraid I cannot believe them. They are panicking that the clear results contradict the statistics that they are fixated on, and the only way they are deciding to react is by making this personal.
