Charlie , both Charlie and Libby were in the pond but they got just one retrieve each. Edge got several retrieves but he didn't become ill so I don't think the pond water made the dogs ill.
Both dogs are still a bit "odd" in their behaviour. Libby seemed fine out in the woods yesterday but was hiding behind or under furniture last night. She's never done that before.
Charlie always did like cuddles but he is now thrusting himself at me in the house .......for reassurance ???
I think someone left food (poisoned food ?) out in the wood behind my house. So far I've never seen Edge scavenge but Charlie and Libby both will.
Do you want me to arrange a training session for next Monday or Tuesday evening Charlie ? P.m. me and we can sort something out ...... I'm dying to show off Edge's brand new blind retrieve !

That occurred to me on Tuesday night Judy. It would be just about now Libby would be due puppies ....if she'd been accidentally mated while she was away in kennels. My wife threw a hairy fit at that possibility ! I do not think she is having pups. No swollen teats and no suspicious belly bulge plus she is hunting pretty much in her usual slash and burn style.
I had a bit of fun with my wife trying to persuade her to keep a puppy that could be Brittany cross cocker, springer, lab, clumber or even poodle ! I quite fancy a Britpoo or maybe a Britlumber .....
She could be having a false pregnancy but I don't think so. There is no real nesting behaviour other than her hiding behind furniture......Libby has never hidden in her life, she's an "in your face" little bitch, very confident in herself. It's puzzling.

Kerbside Gundogs strikes again ! I got my wife to go out and place a rabbit skin dummy out on the same grassy verge as Edge retrieved from last night. Edge was then brought out and sent for it as a blind which he did with no hesitation but with a lot less pace than he does marked retrieves at.
This still isn't a true blind as he is running out to a remembered objective , the grassy verge but he isn't quartering his way out any more since there is no cover out on the road.
Transferring this to the countryside is the next step and I think it might be a difficult one .....Edge likes to quarter ! I will begin on short grass with the dummy placed among an easily noticed patch of longer grass that he has previously retrieved a marked dummy from.
He will be running "to an objective" even if he has not seen a dummy. The retrieve out in the cul de sac is about 50 yards, I think I will lessen that a bit when I take him into the countryside.

A couple of times my dogs had what I described to my vet as `migraine symptoms' - seeking out dark places, hot heads and ears, and the vet put it down to a virus or a toxin, specifically asking about any herbicide or insecticide I had used recently. It usually only lasted 24hrs tops, they enjoyed the cool damp cloths on their heads from the fridge and the neck massages though...a little too much
