Those that wanted to keep Scotland part of the UK are dismissing the arguments put forward by those in favour of EU membership, but they're pretty much the same arguments they used to keep Scotland part of the UK

As I said I don't really do politics and maybe I'm over simplifying things. I don't have an opinion on either as I havnt really looked into it that much.

I know there pros and cons to both, not sure any of it makes the slightest difference as regardless of who occupies No10 they only seem interested in pursuing their own agenda and doing what's best for themselves.
Well said!

An interesting read for those who aren't already bored to the back teeth by this issue.

She wont be happy until she is Queen of Scotland which I find alarming.

Unfortunately Labour has lost the vote in Scotland which now makes it a relatively minor party, they need to get back up and running in Scotland pdq.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

I think the moment has long gone!

Folks in the UK (inc. Scotland) are fed up with referendums.

Many folks who may have voted Yes in the Scottish ref' will not be fans of Europe so the hope that these folks will now automatically vote Yes again to remain in Europe may not hold.

The whole business of the Scottish economy, now with a £15 billion black hole because of the oil price downturn, (if independent) will create much more uncertainty In respect of going it alone. Europe may well decline to invite another member in that may need bailouts, (like Greece)

Mrs May has made it clear that the Scots have already had an independence referendum and another is not on the cards and my understanding is that it would have no legal standing if it happened unilaterally.

The SNP are in a spot though, they need to get away from the Union soonish since if Brexit turns out to be a success (Yes, I know this is not guaranteed), then many Scots will not want to break away from a prosperous UK which buys 60% of Scottish goods just to protect the 15% which goes to Europe.

The SNP need a 60/40 pro electorate before they dare go for another referendum.

John Curtice, the eminent professor, polling expert says the following today:

"However, two more recent polls, taken after the dust of the EU referendum had settled somewhat, have painted a different picture.

Conducted by YouGov, these polls have found little or no evidence of a swing in favour of independence.

One taken at the end of July put support for independence at 47%, while a second undertaken at the end of last month and published today, puts the figure at 46%.

These figures are more or less exactly in line with four polls YouGov conducted in advance of the Scottish Parliament election in May, all of which put support for independence at 45%-46%.

If these polls are correct then, whatever might have been the immediate reaction to the result of the EU referendum, it appears that over the longer term the outcome has failed to change the balance of opinion on independence after all".

Sturgeon is just trying to deflect attention away from the real problems in the Scottish economy that are just going to get worse. The SNP were a single issue party and are much more comfortable with that than with running a country.

I'll be travelling up in mid December. I only hope there's not a border post somewhere on the Tweed by then and I'll be requiring a visa?
