IF the Kennel club refuses to recognise DNA test, case over. Despite alleged cheating on an industrial scale I would bet anything that absolutely nothing will be done about it because it brings the whole massive and very lucrative puppy registration procedure into disrepute. One ruined breed and the KC plainly don't care.

It also makes a mockery of all the effort and infighting breeds like the IRWS went through to do official outcross programmes in order to bring in genetic diversity.

Registering puppies has always relied on individuals honesty. I don't think it reflects badly on the KC that this trust has been allegedly abused. It may have serious and possibly costly implications for the future though if checks and balances are brought in. They'd be better off investigating allegations thoroughly so anyone bending the rules is in fear of getting caught - in my view.

I cant see the KC investigating anything when the complaint letter is unsigned and anonymous. I have seen the full letter and ST only published a small portion!

I think there are a number of individual complaints all being investigated, supported by DNA together with names of dog, owner and breeder.

Only time will tell if there's anything in it and the KC has the balls to act upon it.

If an owner of an alledged dubiously bred dog were to take private action through the courts it could end the whole debate, one way or another.

Trading standards might be a better way.

Whatever happens whatever the result, proven guilty or innocent it needs to happen quickly so everyone can move on.

I've read the letter sent to the KC, it was posted on FB but taken down very quickly.
I thought that some of the allegations were laughable and seemed very malicious, if some of them were true they would only be known by someone who was very close to the person the allegations were about, or even involved in them.
I got the impression they had an axe to grind. What concerns me is that these rumours are being passed off as fact.
I have also been told that another well known breeder added springer to the cocker gene pool many years ago, again these are allegations without any proof.
Personally I think that making allegations without putting your name to them is cowardly.
As for the shooting times article, I thought it was irresponsible to write and publish it, it makes reference to cheating in all sports as if this goes some way to back up the allegations.
It also seems to promote that if you cross a springer with a cocker you'll get a fantastic dog, I don't believe this to be the case, chances are they won't look like a cocker either judging by some of the litters advertised on FB.
I hadn't heard of David Tomlinson before but I haven't bought shooting magazines for some time, it say's elsewhere he's an ornithologist, maybe he should stick to birds. :-D

The allegations are true, it's fairly common knowledge.
The person who wrote the letter does have an axe to grind, many many people do have an axe to grind with the breeder in question, this does noes not make the allegations untrue.
A famous handler years ago did cross his champion springer dogs, one dog in particular, to cocker bitches, again, this is fairly common knowledge, just like other cocker breeders bred sprockers and passed them off as cockers before him, it's been happening throughout the breeds history and continued development.
