Got two springer pups, what makes me smile is the way one is crazy keen to retrieve and when she loses her mark in the half light, she holds her ground and works it methodically until she finds it. Good delivery to boot. Also hunts her ground like a crazed weasel. Love this puppy to bits. Never had to tell her off or say NO. She is amazing.

Eze pulled out to thirty yards in a field of long grass, bit too far for my liking BUT flushed a cock pheasant right off her nose and stopped dead, never moved a muscle turned and looked at me with a " how clever am I" look. :)

Ps
No whistle was used so she must be getting the idea. ;)
Muddling along in the hope that one day it starts to make sense.

That is because you have a springers mentality, the eternal optimist, this next bit of ground will hold game etc. I am just the same :-D

Yesterday , dog worked her heart out. We were 2 beaters short so she had to cover a lot of extra ground. She worked tirelessly hunting really rough ground and flushing loads of birds from thick cover and on everyone one of the 8 drives at the end, went on to pick up finding lost birds , runners and pricked birds.
She ain't perfect but that's more to do with my training , but yesterday I was so proud of her and all her hard work and effort. :-D :-D :-D

Saturday , almost perfect weather, good company and a great piece of ground (marshy willow scrub/ bramble on the drier bits next to a river) with plenty of game, so much that after 15 minutes we had a conflab and decided "cocks only and shoot sparingly" as we think a lot of the birds are wild ( very small and fast), if I am going to die when out shooting Saturday 3pm would have been as good a time as any  . Bag for 2 guns: 6 cock pheasants, 1 hen pheasant, 1 rabbit, flushed over 50 pheasants 5 woodcock and 2 rabbits.
For me as good as it gets :-D

Having the stitches taken out of Mav's leg this morning, and knowing that the end of lead walks are in sight!
I can only hope that I am half the man my dog thinks I am.
