how many days working

Post by ips »

I have a question which I know is difficult because you cannot see my dog but generally speaking.....

I have the following left of the season and I am concerned that it may be too much for my bitch who usually averages one working day per week, however we were dogging in daily for an hour and a half up untill Dec.

Sat. Beating small shoot
Sun. Day off
Mon. Beating big shoot
Tues. Boundary day
Wed. Keepers day

The small shoot is 9 - 2
Big shoot incl boundary day 9 - 4

Suck it and see, my then eight year old did four consecutive days picking up on the big shoot without a problem, if you are sensible and call her in to heel whenever you can then she'll be fine. Had it been the start of the season I would have been more hesitant but they are all fitter now and should be able to cope. Be guided by her.

Thanks Judy. I wasn't sure if there was a rule of thumb so to speak. As in, two days then a day off sort of thing. I will try and keep her as sane as possible ;)

If she looks knackered give her a rest, it's not rocket science.

Fare comment but I was trying to ensure she didn't get knackered in the first place ;)

If you start thinking like that you'd never take them! They all get tired.

She should be tired after a day's work but she's a young and fit dog and will recover by the morning. And she'll be keeping a steady pace by now that she can maintain. If she's really tired she'll just come in to heel but I've yet to have a dog do that.
