Diatomaceous Earth?
Does anybody use this for worm control in dogs?
I've only just heard of it and was wondering how effective it is and whether it'd be suitable for pups?

I don't know how it works with dogs. My only encounter with the stuff was as part of a filter medium for fish tanks.

Worms, no - fleas and garden bugs, yes: https://www.thespruce.com/diatomaceous- ... ol-3385244
As for worms, I would say unlikely as DE is a silicate, meaning its deadly drying effects would be nullified in the belly of a beast. "Food-grade DE" tastes pretty good to (some) humans, in fact.

Re: Diatomaceous Earth?
I have heard it is not effective. I would only use veterinary recommended worm control. I only worm mine once a year!

Blimey, DR, I didn't have you down as being a sucker for quack remedies.
Got some Rhino horn if you're interested.

I was thinking about another use for it, I'll keep it under my hat for a while though.
I was just wondering if it actually worked for worms in dogs, but as far as the Rhino horn goes............Mrs Dawnrazor says if you've got any spare I've to pm you my address

I use it in the chicken coops to keep the bugs away

Re: Diatomaceous Earth?
There is very good evidence for its use externally for parasites, but be careful not to breath it in as it may be carcinogenic.
There is very poor evidence for its use internally for worms.

Re: Diatomaceous Earth?
Use it on ticks by shaking a quantity on the bug, great on spiders/ants or any insect really. Down side takes time to dry the bug out (in my case applied at night dead in morning kinda thing) but it did kill it and left a dry husk other down side is that its a bit messy so ok for coops and kennels not in the house. Used it as an additive in food for over a good few years now and my dogs never looked like carrying worms. I am not so trusting of these new worming tablets bought from the Vet, I prefer to see worms being deposited this mushing them up leaves me in doubt due to not seeing results with my own eyes.

Re: Diatomaceous Earth?
My dogs don't have worms and I don't often use anything! Just to be a good citizen I do worm them with vet pill once a year, but no sign of worms.
