You will find that a lot of people will give various variations on this!
I don't get this, if you train a dog to such a standard why not run it yourself ?
Also I would have thought that a dog would work better for whoever trained it, obviously not. I don't get it ??

There are "successful trainers", "good trainers" and "good dog people" - they are not all the same beast. Some of the most competent "trainers" I know, do not even register on the "best" list. They don't care either.

as you'll discover in time, I'm sure, that there is no formula with dogs and success.

Thanks but doesn't really answer the question?

This could be a minefield! People view "top" handlers as being perfect, nobody's perfect! Some top handlers have a person or different people doing an awful lot of stuff to their dogs before they take over. Some people get a real tune out of virtually any dog but don't like competing,so they're happy behind the scenes. Some people can do both from beginning to end. Some people buy in 3/4 to fully trained dogs to run and the ones they train themselves they can't win with. Most dogs will run for anyone sadly (little loyalty!) It depends on the individual person at the end of the day.

The question in itself, is obscure. There is no fixed answer. Those who think there is, and want to measure it somehow, do not understand the pursuit.

My question was why train a dog but get someone else to run it, that was all

Ah I see, thank you.

Buying a dog already trained doesn't seem right to me. I thought training a dog to work with you was the point 😞

The point is different things for different people. There is no "one size fits all" (or did I already mention that?)
