I would think there are more pointers worked in falconry than are actually shot over in the UK. The same goes for setters and HPRs.

The type of pointers I see in the UK is somehow/sometimes different from the Italian type pointers but recently the Brits started working with Italian bloodlines as well.
As people have already wrote here, is difficult to go hunting/shooting on your own with a pointer in the UK. So basically these dogs are used just for trials and grouse counting. a few for formal grouse shooting over setters & pointers. Anyway feel free to ask questions, here or privately
Thanks for the feedback.

Informative thread, glad SP raised the question. Anybody in these precincts by chance communicate with Derry Argue? - would be keen to hear his take on today's pointers in the UK.

Derry's opinions on Field Trialling would be strong and would not be favourable I suspect.

no but I have his book :-)

If you trust my opinion (field trials issues asides) I saw good dog, some are less stylish and flashy than the Italian ones but probably easier to train!

you are welcome. In my blog under this category there are some articles about FT in the UK (you have to browse around a little as some are in Italian and some are in English)
