lab run size

Post by Tomm156 »

hello all,

I am hoping for some help, with my recent addition of a bitch I am going to have to separate them when the time comes so this means I am going to have to re build my kennel.

I have decided I will use the km engineering large boxes x2, the plan is to have two runs and boxes with a door between so when the bitch isn't in season they can sleep together etc. then shut the door and have a run and a cabin each. how big do you guys recommend for run sizes? I am a bit tight for space where I live at the moment else I would give them as much as I can. currently they are kennelled during the day and night and come into the house evenings and when one of us is home

any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks
Tom

6 x 4 maybe?
I'm not a fan of great big runs, dogs don't exercise them self's in it.

I agree, dogs do not really exercise themselves in big runs. My run is only about 9 feet X 4 feet and three dogs happily share it, one of those dogs is a lab.

An in season bitch a few inches away from a presumably entire male? They’ll both be driven bonkers!

If you are going to do it you’ll need to be careful how you separate the runs as there are plenty of bitches who’ve been served by a dog through the mesh of a crate intended to keep them apart... Nature has a habit of finding a way round petty obstacles!
