£2000 for a lab pup ....any takers ?

Post by trekmoor »

While looking for a lab pup for my daughter I came across a couple of ads that made me yelp in disbelief. One wanted £2000 for a "silver lab" pup. The other wanted almost £1500 for a lab pup born with tan feet !

I know this was a recent topic but it made me mad all over again . Are there people who are really daft enough to pay that sort of money for a pup with no qualifications other than an odd colour ? Mis-coloured lab pups used to get a one way ticket to a hole in the ground !

Lol it's nothing for some lab field trial breedings to go for $10,000 - $20,000 here. And they're not even silver ;)

Once people start breeding for colour then all other attributes go out of the window. We have seen it with the chocolate Lab and many fear it is happening with the so called fox red Lab. Choosing parents because of colour rather than ability, robust health and temperament ruins working breeds in no time at all. Breeding a dog because it is the fashionable colour and turning a blind eye to its faults is becoming all to common.

Much like breeding to win a trial regardless of other considerations?

I feel it is 'wicked' to breed a dog for its colour and then charge a mad fee. But if people are so stupid as to buy something fashionable and prepared to pay that price, this breeding will go on.

Bill, my intel is that, as a Commonwealth citizen in good standing, Cass made an exploratory journey south of the border, only to find out: http://www.jimtownkennels.com/bulladors/
