gundog breed preferences.

Really different preferences for different things. I love training labradors as they are so easy and the results are very satisfying. For working, the springers can't be beaten as a Jack-of-all trades, but the ultimate pleasure is walking behing a good cocker hunting well.

hmmm. Not too sure I agree with this sentiment. For me dogs need to have something extra, something that sets it apart. Just "doing the job" is the bare minimum. The ultimate all rounder is the GSP. But there is very little, for me, that eclipses the enthusiasm, drama and work ethic of a good Pointer. But for me, dogs - like people - must be likeable. And, like people, I've met many I don't like.

I agree! There has to be something extra for me too, used to be called "desire to please" before the Posi Trainers and "dog psychologists" decided that was nonsense. A willingness to work as a team rather than on sufferance or for itself. Then there has to be that extra bit, fire and enthusiasm as well as skill. A dog, for me, has to be exciting to watch.Springfield Pointers wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 7:23 amhmmm. Not too sure I agree with this sentiment. In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

I have very little experience and only of one dog but i fully understand this sentiment. I set out to train my one to work with me because she wanted to and enjoyed it. Judy's post has outlined my thoughts exactly.Judy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 9:31 amI agree!
