First rule of throwing out your nice canvas dummy ball into water, make sure the dog is going to swim out to get it. Branta has been in water with her mum (Zasa) and Rhuna (FCR), so I thought I'd see how she did on her own, and silly me, threw it out too far to walk and get it and she did not want to know. As soon as she got in deep enough to swim, she lost her bottle and came back to shore; added to that, she's swimming like a puppy, and occasionally breaks into the seal sort of swim her mum does.
So, cue me throwing in a couple of stones a few feet out, but no, she could see nothing on the surface.
So, I hunted for a couple of twigs/sticks, and got her going in for those, but by now, the dummy ball was quite a long way out for her. Thankfully, I'd thrown it in a small inlet area, so it was now closer to the other shore. So we walked round to the other side and threw out a stick, so, of course, she retrieved the stick! So after a hunt round for a stone, I threw that, and she retrieved the lovely canvas dummy ball, what a good girl! So we did a few fun retrieves out of the water and then off home.
So then it was the turn of Zasa and Rhuna, and the surprising thing is, Zasa beats Rhuna hands down in water, every single time. Much to Rhuna's dismay, as you can tell from the look on her face for the portrait shot. So there you go, Labradors are better than flatcoats in water!
Lots of little frogs on the pathways as well tonight, you might be able to spot the one I managed to photograph. Oh and some scenery, you can see Ferrybridge, Eggborough and Drax (I think) in one, the others have Emley Moor Transmitter and Penistone Viaduct.
