possibility of working her
Re: possibility of working her
Well yesterday started very well she worked really well indeed BUT we ended on the last drive with yet another run in to the gun line for a retrieve.....it's becoming a real issue
Muddling along in the hope that one day it starts to make sense.
Re: possibility of working her
Well today we did pretty much the same drives and i managed to avoid any gun line run ins........phew....there was one stage were she had a good look but I managed to stop her with a grrrr type of a thing

It was actually a grrr followed by some expletives

The Grrr is for the dog the expletives make you feel useful. When you perfect that `woman glare' the world is your oyster.

Beaters day on the estate tomorrow....be a 300 bird day but I can't be bothered pulling the trigger so once again I am attempting to pick up of sorts ......I am hoping that I have learned from past attempts and will do a better job of it......wish me luck

Re: possibility of working her
Hope it goes well IPS, enjoy. I think we should run a sweep stake for all those doing a different job on beater's day......
1. doesn't put a foot wrong
2. runs in once, get's grumbled at and doesn't do it again
3. becomes entirely self employed
4. becomes entirely self employed and for just for fun swaps birds multiple times in front of all the guns
5. cracks through one or more drives before the guns are on their pegs
The above are all at the forefront of my mind as it is Beater's day tomorrow and I'm taking Moley the cocker spaniel, who has done nothing apart from the odd armed walk at home this season

Re: possibility of working her
Well it defo went much better than previous attempts. Had her on a lead for first drive so i could assess were her head was at. She seemed quite switched on so no more leads .. I like to test us both
.....she was steady to birds falling ....as long as I was on her case.....and we picked a few birds on the first few drives. I was in charge of looking after the gunslips in the Polaris so was restricted as to were I could stand so as a result was much closer to the shooting than I would have liked .....we were steady to a pheasant falling pretty much at her feet so pleased with that, but on the last drive we did have a run in on a partridge which was a very strong runner and landed five yards from her, I forgave that as the injured bird would have been lost for sure if she had not run in to it
an enjoyable day
