Of the big sires,
Halaze Hickory of Edgegrove OFTW, DOM Championship 2002. Spine injury when working so could not go for FTCH next season. Sire of Edgegrove Hitch, Swedish Champion 2008 and other FTCH. Check pedgrees with Lochindorb (Google it)
Google Edgegrovegundogs

Other suggestions in PM.

With you on that one Sgurr! A great sire of hard hunting, 'natural' dogs which are also great retrievers. Everyone knows what a fan I am off Laddie. Jeremy is also a great guy to deal with and has plenty of Laddie progeny in his kennel to show off! Davy Lissett used him on the 2x championship winner this year, Annickview Breeze and currently has 6 superstars in the making toddling about!

Laddie's Sire is OFTW Bridevalley Hothead, his dam is FTCh Rhy ddu Elen. I've used Jeremy's Laddie son on my trial bitch as I want to line breed back to Rhy ddu Elen.

My stud dog Glen is Edgegrove Furrow (Laddie and Rhyddcastle Dusty) and my bitch Jodie (just now retired from breeding) her father is litter brother to Breeze.
It is Glen and Jodie's son Sniff that I posted 'bringing home the bacon' - that was quite a retrieve
For Jodie's last litter I used Scott (Helmsway Hawk of Witchwillows) and I have Breagha (born January) to keep her line going. Great pups but Scott has too much Rytex for Flush1

I must say I've always thought Laddie and Breeze would be the dream mating.

Cheers,
Sgurr

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.

I bred a litter by Saturn's Spirit last Summer. Of the seven pups, five are in working/trialling homes and two of those are still here with me. The folk that had the pups are very pleased with their development thus far. I think all bar one had solid liver heads and a lot of colour elsewhere, the dog I kept is almost solid liver. The bitch I kept, Hazel, is a good hunter and shows a bit of style. Tywi, the dog pup, is a really solid 'hard as nails' type who is a fantastic retriever though as yet he isn't hunting as well as I would like. The only slight issue I have is that a couple of the dogs in the litter do not have dead straight front legs, though I've recently learnt that this may have come down from Steadroc Sker, their grandsire, as he had the same issue. I am happy to be corrected on this point though!

Will Clulee was also a pleasure to deal with and was very happy to offer advice, ensure the pedigree was a good match etc.
