Dog Transit Box Wanted

Post by beth.james »

Hi I'm currently on the hunt for information on car boxes.
Unfortunately I haven't got the most ideal car - Ford Fiesta Zetec '56 plate - and have no plans to change it any time soon. Ideally I need to be able to fit two labs in it
I've found one from Lintran that might work well but was wondering if anyone had any better ideas perhaps or knows of any second hand ones around?

Thanks

Depends whether you'd want one with solid sides etc, or whether a wire mesh one would suit.

Don't know much about them but have seen others recommend http://www.hamsterbaskets.co.uk/

They might be the best way of maximising the space you have available.

I use a mesh type one cos they colapse and are easy to store when not needed, holds two labs and would fit in a fiesta with the back seats down. It came from Barjo, not cheep but it is now on its 3rd Lab and about 15 years old. Easy to put up and down etc.

Thanks guys, Tresallier I have PM'd you.
Looks like for the hamsterbaskets.co.uk and Barjo they'd have to be custom made - and unless I find someone with something suitable to sell second hand that looks the only sensible way to go - best get my measuring tape out then!
Oh and I've had a peek at Ebay and there's nothing small enough

Given the tiny dimensions and your need to house 2 labs, I would talk to barjo about a normal dog guard over the rear seats and a tailgate guard for the hatch. This way you will make the maximium space available for dogs. I fear a box small enough to get in and out will be very tight for 2 labs.

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.

I would suggest the same as Arwesa, you gat maximum space and the rear guard generally has a big enough door that you will be able to still get stuff in and out reasonably ( unless you are 6 1/2 ft tall of course!!)

We have used Barjo for cages in the past and despite their price we have found them to be excellent in every other sense

My mind problem is the mess they make in the back of the car - fur everywhere and started to chew the plastic and attempt to dig up floor, hence the need to enclose them totally without access to wrecking the inside of the boot.

Have you got the boot measurements? Do you need the back seats when the dogs are in the car or could you drop them down to give more room for a crate? I have an Atlas 100 crate here which fits the Freelander 2 with space all round it but I wouldn't want to travel far with two labs in it, they would be very confined.

And it may be up for sale if anyone is interested! :-D
