First camping trip!

Post by Vicky&Phil »

Recently back from our first complete family camping trip to damp and windy Cornwall  Oz has camped before at game fairs but it was Jakes first time and was something of an epic adventure for all of us
First night, overnight stop on Dartmoor. Bright eyed and excited and definately needing to be tethered up

A couple of days later, no need to be tethered now!!!

We had an excellent time despite the weather. We walked miles, geocached and bodyboarded the week away. The boys have only just recovered and we have already booked for next year

Is Jake likely to be for sale anytime soon?

Rather you than me, I don't think I fancy taking the mutts here on a camping trip!

Ive been wondering if any of you guys go camping, it would be good to swap tips and ideas.....

All my pups had their first camping trip at around 12wks old........its great at that age as all they really want is to be with you.........the only down side is that they wake up with the birds... dont they Vicky..!!! :brickwall:

Ours is luxury camping as in we have a caravan.......complete with all mod cons.....like a microwave.... :o not really camping is it.. but other half wont go back to tenting......

Bluebell, the 2nd picture (if you look closely) is our secret weapon...... OH's VW Transporter van!!! We racked out the one side to hold all the tools, buckets etc, these are simply removed and swopped with the camping kit. The boys have a cage in there which they travel and sleep in. The van also doubles up as a wet-weather kitchen, storage area, charger for mobiles, DS etc as well as a means of transport. It would be impossible in the Freelander but luckily the van is fairly new (09 plate) so is still reasonably comfy to travel in and quite spacious  We also saw LOADS of people with trailers.

Lisa08 it was our first time all together but I have loads of tips and would welcome any that you can send my way as we are hopelessly addicted already

Judy we went to Gwithian, a small village on St Ives bay. It was the best campsite I have ever been on for cleanliness and friendliness and they positively welcomed dogs (max. of 2 in high season) It was also less than 10 minutes walk across the dunes to a HUGE sandy beach with a very large dog area and was perfect for surfing and bodyboarding. Also a fraction of the price of our usual holiday on the Med (though admittedly a little damper!!) No bar or club which suits us fine but the very nice pub over the road has won awards for its dog friendliness and the food was excellent. Overall we could not have been happier  Anyone interested take a peek at http://www.gwithianfarm.co.uk but be aware that it gets booked up early for peak times.

Maybe that's just as well, I really DO NOT NEED another dog, especially not one at that age, right at this moment in time.

We went camping with our 3 to Moy for two nights, it is the first time all three have been with us..... Have decided that we need a bigger tent.. the boys sleep in the car, no fear of anyone taking anything out of it... but Tarn is in the tent in her cage, in Ryan's bedroom bit... would prefer to have all 3 in the tent. We had a great time, just need to get proper beds...... we have mats but they really need to be on beds.... being a crip I need comfort camping.....first night I got naff all sleep, by second night I was so tired I could have slept on a knife edge... :o Might have to nick Lisa's caravan next time......

why you selling Lisa......you decided to go back to tents!! I cannot understand anyone wanting a caravan. I lived in one for 3 years whilst we did this barn conversion (special planning board in the Lakes made it a very drawn out process). My happiest day was watching it burn after we decided it was too hard work to sell it on and tow it out over my newly laid drive!!!

But........that's just me, I know some people seem to enjoy it???
