Do you shoot with a dog?
Re: Do you shoot with a dog?
1 - Rough shoot.
2 - Labradors.
3 - Experienced gun, novice with a dog.
4 - No spaniel at the moment so I wouldn't come to what I see as a two competition with only one dog.

Re: Do you shoot with a dog?
No, i don't shoot.
Why? i get more enjoyment out of working my dogs in the Beaters line.
I do what i do because i enjoy the whole experience of the day and the satisfaction of working my dogs, I don't own a shotgun and probably never will, as shooting does not appeal to me (does that make sense??) Even on Beaters day every year the Keeper offers me one of his shotguns for a days shooting, i always decline and work the line instead.
1. Beat on normally Driven shoots
2. Springer Spaniels....passionate about them. i counldn't see myself with anything else.
3. i'd say i was an experienced Beater, probably Novice handler.
4. Wouldn't know where to start in Trails or Tests. Although it would be good to see how good my dogs are and how good i've been at training them.
Have thought about it after a comment from a trainer about my young pup, saying she would probably do well in trials. But then there was the bad press article in the Shooting Times......(oh..Sh*t, i feel a can of worms opening
) so i don't know which way to take it, ill carry on reading through this viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4519

4. Lack of confidence, experience, maturity, and it just doesn't appeal to me.

It is my opinion, that more and more people get involved with gundogs, because they have a gundog breed?,rather than because of 'shooting'![]()
To help me promote/encourage people 'into the 'Art of shooting with Gundogs'?,I would like to know where we are 'Now', with the forum members,as a brief indication of the 'sport', nationwide.
If you are a 'Yes' then please reply and let me know the following:
1. Is it driven,rough/wildfowling etc? walk and stand syndicate +rough +very occasional driven
2. What breed(s) of dogs do you work? cocker
3. Would you say you were 'Experienced/Pro/Novice/beginner/'? experienced shot, fair dog training experience
4. What overall factor would make or discourage you from entering an event such as the Polmaise Cup? only one dog & he is only 18 months old
If you are a 'No' please say why you don't or haven't shot over/with your dog.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
Re: Do you shoot with a dog?
Another one for the not yet...but in 12 months or so my answers will be:
1. Is it driven,rough/wildfowling etc? - Drivenish (walk one stand one); rough; wildfowling; pigeon
2. What breed(s) of dogs do you work?- one lab currently 7 mths old
3. Would you say you were 'Experienced/Pro/Novice/beginner/'? beginner in terms of dogs
4. What overall factor would make or discourage you from entering an event such as the Polmaise Cup? the only thing would be my (and my dog's) lack of skill and experience. I've seen the website link and it looks fantastic - maybe in the future.
I only got a dog to bring shooting. Although I had pets when I was a kid I am not sure that I would have got one if it hadn't have been for shooting. Having said that I have done less pigeon shooting since I got the dog than ever before - although I am planning more game and wildfowl this season.

Re: Do you shoot with a dog?
I'm a yes,
1. Guest driven days, beaters days, & rough shooting, but all of the these only occasionally (mainly just dog work)
2. Mainly labs
3. Fairly experienced with the dogs, but not a very good shot!!
4. I am sure I would not be a good enough shot!!
