Tried loads, not impressed with ventile. Norroa Recon is a very well made shell but has zero insulation.

Last season I got a lot of use from a new Arktis/Country Covers jacket and an old Barbour Berwick Endurance.

Would recommend both.

I now have three jackets coming over from 'Stoney Creek' in New Zealand to test!!!!! :-D :-D :-D

The ones I have chosen are:

The shooters jacket http://www.stoneycreekshop.co.nz/stoney ... een-5.html

The Zambar jacket (soft shell, windproof only)
http://www.stoneycreekshop.co.nz/stoney ... een-5.html

The Pioneer jacket

Here's the full range:

They are about to start selling their stuff in the UK. I have only heard of them by reputation, I have no knowledge just yet as to whether the kit is any good or not! :-D

Cheers, Terry

PS - If the Arktis stuff is any good (truly waterproof), then this MUST be a good buy:

I was out in my arktis last season - it proper peed down all day. Horizontal at times. Everyone else was wet apart from two of us in arktis gear.

The only wet I had was where I hadnt done the hood up right, the water collected in a pool and when I moved it ran down my front!

Five year guarantee as well I think.

I think the 4 year guarantee only applies to their top of the range jackets, not the one I posted above?

However, here is one and to my mind looks very business-like and it does have the guarantee. Not too pricey either considering the only other jacket I have see with such a guarantee is the Harkila pro-hunter at around £400!!!

I even quite like this cheaper one, (though its lack of pockets won't suit everyone!

I'd go for Harkila every time - as long as it is a style with waterproof pockets too. My Kodiak and Lakeland (no longer made unfortunately) have done four seasons so far and are still going strong.

For long enough Jakti-Jakt did a deal where for 146 Euro you got, coat, trousers, reversible hat, tee shirt, gloves and a thermal vest and probably some other stuff as well. All good stuff.

i have a duckdri jacket about 10 years old i use for beating picking up & when i am trialing it is hardwearing warm & bone dry excellent value for money.
i also use a swazi jacket wich keeps me bone dry but not as warm so i wear a buffalo smock underneath warm as toast but twice the cost of the duckdri.
