Also the fact that he is a Working dog too......and I mean a proper working dog....any dog that can do that as well, is in my eyes a damn good dog! Maybe your mate should look at the bitches...it takes 2 to make puppies!paul spaniel wrote:19 awards in trials - numerous 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in opens - always there or there abouts - no noise issues, i think your mates need to open there eyes to the facts..what other DECENT cocker is standing at stud in scotland - none..canpuput wrote:Some mates of mine who trial tell me that its not the first time he done this? Well I've got a youngster by a Novice FTW dog that is based in Scotland, Fernmoss Freddie (FTCH Larford Evan/FTCH Fernmoss Nightingale), I've been out training with Freddie, and his dam a fair bit, and I'd have to say he's certainly a decent dog in my book. Not had the success the FTCH Cheweky Bovril has enjoyed, (he's a nice dog in my book as well), but then again he's not been trialled as much.paul spaniel wrote:19 awards in trials - numerous 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in opens - always there or there abouts - no noise issues, i think your mates need to open there eyes to the facts..what other DECENT cocker is standing at stud in scotland - none..canpuput wrote:Some mates of mine who trial tell me that its not the first time he done this? I'm more than happy with my pup at this early stage, time will tell how he develops, but so far so good.
Here he is (Miggsy, Contrail Cicero), enjoying a spot of retreiving.

fernmoss freddie is not a bad dog - but he aint no bovril - he definately has a nice pedigree, if freddie had the capabilitys of going on and winning an open he would have did so..

Have to agree completely here. I've seen Bovril a few times and he's a real class dog.paul spaniel wrote:fernmoss freddie is not a bad dog - but he aint no bovril - if freddie had the capabilitys of going on and winning an open he would have did so..

I have a Freddie pup, smashing little thing.
I was speaking to my friend Francis who runs him, apparently Freddie has only run in nine trials so far!! Getting three C.O.M, fourth, third, a first and a guns choice.
Im starting trialling this year so wish me luck!!!!

Re: FT Ch CHEWEKY BOVRIL
Watched the novice trial he won sept/oct 2009, went ok, struggled a wee bit on retrieve under second judge but still won. Frances brooks told us at the trial it was only his 8th one, so if he's only ran in one more maybe paul spaniel is correct, perhaps it doesn't have gears to compete at top level, Little beastie may be able to advise us better!. Sorry I lost touch with trials during the everlasting snow and frost!

Re: FT Ch CHEWEKY BOVRIL
Not necessarily Paul. There are plenty of dogs out there that were never made up to FTCh for many reasons - cost, time, lack of game, work commitments, inexperienced handler the list goes on. I was considering using Freddie on my award winning bitch before the snow came and I spoke to several top trialling guys who really rate the dog and said it was FTCh material. I myself suffer terrible nerves when trialling to the point where I developed a stomach ulcer, that coupled with work commitments and limited access to game means I do not run in alot of trials and I'm not a member of alot of clubs (9). I ran in 6 open stakes last year and was lucky enough to win one of them. Surely your 'luck' increases with the more trials you run in.paul spaniel wrote:fernmoss freddie is not a bad dog - but he aint no bovril - he definately has a nice pedigree, if freddie had the capabilitys of going on and winning an open he would have did so..
