Do you have to train alone?
Where are you is there someone on the regional register near to you who you could contact.
There are some things that a spare pair of hands can really help with. I am not sure if this is the right place but I could hire you my 13 year old launcher, he just needs feeding three times a day and the occasional reminder to be quiet and not help the dogs.

Re: Training alone
Bloody hell, you've got a good one, mines a bottomless pit, wouldn't care but he's 6 stone wet through, perhaps I'd better worm him.beltabout wrote: I could hire you my 13 year old launcher, he just needs feeding three times a day

One a survey I did some years back .....it came out that 70 % of handlers train almost exclusively on a solo basis , and most dont have set day/patterns to it , training ad hoc usually combining it with the dogs walk...the fav exercise being dummy retrieval .

Re: Training alone
My training is mostly done on a 1 to 1 (me and the dog).
Due to the area i am using it is about 3 fields away from where i park the car, i normally only take one dog at a time as i dont want to leave them unattended in the car.....
Timing for me is really adhoc depending how busy i am with work etc. but i try to get 2 dogs out training per day up the field.
Other then that its a bit of training in the garden or walking along the street outside, trying to make the most of what time i have available etc

Re: Training alone
I train alone with our Lab Murphy now 1 year old, training coming on well as hes so keen to learn have to stop myself getting carried away with his progress.
Has been returning dummies to hand now & very steady when thrown out and thrown all around him.
Bought a Lite Recoil Dummy Launcher from Gundog Gear last week to help with further retrieves as my arm is getting sore throwing them out as hard as i can! He has heard gunshot from a distance before at the end off the season and did very well
so was confident he would be steady with this equipment.
I was out in the field a very long way from Public & local roads to try out my
our new training aid!
first of all got him sitting about 30ft /15m away then let off a blank shot from launcher with no dummy, just hand threw out one to try him out. never moved a muscle but Marked it until it landed then sent him `GO-back` to which he returned to hand.
Tried another a few minutes later after allot of praise
I then finished the exercise off with the real thing a 80 yard launch with him watching on from 15m away as soon as the luanched dummy had hit the grass I sent him out, He flew out keeping his mark and then returned to hand What star!!!!
i will continue to train alone but will from time to time train with a group of shooters from our syndicate, I will take my time with him but on a high at the moment as his training can only get better with maturity & experience

Re: Training alone
I have to say that it is importaint IMHO to do at least some training with other people dogs etc. We had a very 'interesting' first session with Chiltern because he wasnt used to so many interesting things going on around him. Hope tommorows session is better!
