KELMARSH..WORLD MITSIBUSHI GUNDOGS
The first of the qualifier rounds to go through to the world final at the midland..was very hotly contested with a mixture of trialers and keepers and scurry and working test entrys from all over the country.........but this year there was a twist in the tail ,with ian openshaw changing the rules to give the spaniels more of a chance to go through by placing only one dog[one spaniel and one retreiver] in each class...working test and the scurry as a winner for each day....the large crowds could not belive there eyes when last years winner neil dutton posted a time that he said ,it will be some dog that will beat that...so along came kevin john with his spaniel ..poppy who had her first litter of pups 13 weeks ago.....the test was first a seen launcher dummy of around 150 yards over a fence, but you were asked to pick a blind behind the launcher dummy in some thick cover, retreive this first, then the launcher dummy but on the way back another launcher dummy was fired over the dog to mark..then pick that..kevin did this pin perfect and won the working test with poppy for the spaniels with neil winning for the retreivers..and i just heard graham holden has just won and gone through on the sunday in the scurry class....
Re: KELMARSH..WORLD MITSIBUSHI GUNDOGS
I was at kelmarsh yesterday and had my first ever go at a scurry. Honestly thought there was more chance of my dog (14 mths) vaulting the fence and going to play with the other dogs!
We had a couple of goes at the novice scurry (don't laugh everyone has to start somewhere). The first run wasn't to successful. Picked the first easily but struggled with the second. I can only assume she didn't mark it then was put off by the crowds.
Second run was much better both picked quickly but she dropped the second one short and took a while to pick it again. Final time was 41 secs - she had picked the second dummy on 17 secs and hand the poor delivery cost. The leading time at that point was 36 secs.
Confidence up we went onto the long retrieve. On the first attempt the dummy landed straight into a pile of brashings causing both the marker and the chap operating the dummy launcher to comment on how unlucky it was. Still she went straight out eventually found it and returned (with a better delivery this time) in 23.08 secs.
Second attempt got a kinder bounce and finished with a time just over 15 secs. I can't remember the exact time because I was buzzing too much! Astounded when I checked the leader board and saw we were fractions of a second outside the top five.
I didn't think it was too bad for a first time in polite society.

make sure if she picks both of them up at the same time, she does it in a quick time! Might even beat those that pick them up one at a time!da.drew wrote:Hoping to go to Highclere |Castle for the Countryman Fair and Im going to let my 8 month old Springer have a go at the Novice Scurry, shes fine with one retrive but with two she tries to pick them both up at the same time!

Did an hour with Dave Rayner over at Woodash Gundogs http://www.woodashgundogs.co.uk/Woodash_Gun_Dogs.html yesterday and he sorted me out> As is normal it wasn't the dog, it was the handler doing it wrong
. After just an hour she was retrieving from a back command and getting her to correct dummy! Happy days!
