Good evening everyone. We have Cockers and Labs actively engaged in picking up during the season. The dogs are mainly used by my wife but I sometimes am allowed a go! Last year we had a litter from our favourite spaniel hoping to keep a black bitch and letting our friends acquire the rest. She had six pups -three dogs and three bitches, a lovely litter and all very healthy. Friends came to choose their pups but unfortunately there was a chocolate dog that nobody wanted possibly because he was not an object of great beauty infact some would say decidedly ugly, he gained the nickname of' Billy no-mates. You can guess what happened. All the pretty pups went and we were landed with Billy no-mates and a year later the ugly duckling has failed to change into the proverbial swan rather resembling a cross between a minature long haired Dachshund and an Irish Wolfhound. But - he has the most super temperament and is unbelievably good natured and placid, he is devoid of the usual cocker hyper active behaviour and is extremely biddable , almost in Labrador territory. I would not change him for the World and his training is coming on remarkably well. The only thing is that I worry about getting him onto real game before the season starts - any ideas welcome

Welcome to the Forum Bodgy and Billy
where are you located? Have you thought about finding a trainer and/or using a rabbit pen to steady him up

North Devon - a shortage of training here. I see that Ann Seward @ www Ann Seward .co.uk has posted a portrait she did of Billy and his mum Twig on her site. Her paintings make a special gift for a special occasion ( 65 birthday) she has a talent of capturing the individuality of the pet for anyone who has a dog ,horse etc they want immortalised.
There may be no trouble converting him from dummies to partridge in Sept maybe I should wait and see .Thanks for the reply
