That looks like a nasty break

but my mind did a quick flip when I saw the X-Ray and you had been talking about your friend putting pins in - I started to see a hammer and nails :D

It's not far off! Most orthopaedic ops start with a tray of instruments which look like glorified DIY kit... I prefer to avoid it myself.

Years ago when I worked for a vet he asked me what I was like at carpentry, I then had to drill a hole up a bone with an old fashioned hand held drill. Those were the days.

Human orthopedic surgery started out as one of the surgeons bringing in his tool kit - quite literally! But I guess if it was the only hope of saving an leg or arm.....

we still have a handheld drill in work which does get used for ortho ops now and again, its the big black and decker drill I like to use in surgery tho

I remember watching my dad perform a knee replacement when I was young. His hobby is also carpentry and has a 'workshop' at home with exciting looking tools that we were never allowed to touch. For years I was convinced he carried out all his surgeries using the tools from the garage - they looked exactly the same!!

(I'm still not allowed to touch the lathe, as if I'm that clumsy :snooty: ).

Hope Quincy's allowing his paw to heal!
