ask yourself this... Do wild dogs, eat veggies? I don't disagree that there are some nutrients that can benefit, but I have found that my dogs do better on meat and poultry. Dogs digestive systems and dentition are focused on dealing with animal products. Preferably raw.da.drew wrote:See now this is where I have the problem, everybody feeds different with success so everybosys right, so do dogs need veggies or do we give it because someone said there are lots of good things in it.

Re: RAW Feeding
I agree, that is my arguement with anyone against RAW, give a dog a bowl of meat and a bowl of veggies and which one will he eat! As i say though, so many experienced RAW feeders do give veggies. I watched a great vid of an american guy RAW feeding he chopped ox toungr heart and other offal and put in a lettece leaf and he says thats all they need!Springfield Pointers wrote:ask yourself this... No, I'm not saying they (domestic dogs) won't eat veggies given the choice, I'm saying for a dog that is required to work and be healthy, meat is better for it than a veggie based diet.da.drew wrote: I agree, that is my arguement with anyone against RAW, give a dog a bowl of meat and a bowl of veggies and which one will he eat! Wild dogs do eat veggies, not directly but often the first thing consumed on a kill is the stomach, which ,in the case of most of their prey will contain vegetable matter.Springfield Pointers wrote:ask yourself this... So are you a veg feeder? If so, what does a dog gain from it?pontbeck wrote:Wild dogs do eat veggies, not directly but often the first thing consumed on a kill is the stomach, which ,in the case of most of their prey will contain vegetable matter.Springfield Pointers wrote:ask yourself this... Re: RAW Feeding
Hi Bill. This has some truth in it but is not really true. The carnivore/predator does not go in looking for the stomach contents to eat, they go into the stomach primarily because it's the easiest way into the animal. Usually in through the anus or bowels, the organs, including the stomach and intestines are consumed in haste and first. When compared to the rest of the animal consumed the amount of vegetable matter consumed is negligible, and the predator certainly does not take an animal with a view to gaining the contents of the stomach. In fact animals lower in the pecking order only get the muscle meat and bones to eat as the organs are eaten by the top dogs.pontbeck wrote: Wild dogs do eat veggies, not directly but often the first thing consumed on a kill is the stomach, which ,in the case of most of their prey will contain vegetable matter.

Hi SP
My point was they eat veggies , even if it's in a roundabout way. The quantity and the need, for a balanced diet, is under question.

Re: RAW Feeding
I feed all sorts of and parts of meat, fish, eggs, veggies, fruit raw; they also get live yoghurt, honey, herbs and oils.
I do not do measuring, I feed by hand and eye (although I have been doing it for over 12 years) much as I used to with horses (before it became so technical)
I think if you feed what your dog likes and it suits them and they look and perform well, what else is there to know?

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail more than his tongue!
