As a comedian I liked Ronnie Corbett, as a programme presenter I detest him. Even his voice drives me up the wall.
The lady breeder was honest enough to say that she could get about £450 for a cocker pup but could get about double that if she mated to get cockapoos.

I couldnt believe the amount of very different breeds that cockerpoo has been put too , it totally baffled me what that dog had that they all wanted to breed from it

the owner said "he was a great dog and there would never would be another like it"........................what was so great about it ? I scratched my head for ages

Final word from her was that it had cancer... Lets hope that's not hereditary. Poor 2 year old cocker was seen purely as a means to make money. Was disgusted feel compelled to contact itv to say so.
Whole program was a joke. Previous ones have been ok but that was disgraceful.

Sorry to butt In but me being a bit of a trog' was firmly under the impression that Springer and cockers were both from the same mix, ie land spaniels and pointers. The deciding factor between them was determined by size, height or weight, depending where you came from. Bearing in mind that the working cocker with it's tail docked is not allowed to take part in shows (according to the KC) why oh why are you all being so negative about 'sprockers'? Goodness before we know it you be saying beaters can't go to the pub with picker ups and guns mustn't chat to beaters or keepers. Come on guys we're supposed to be about promoting gundogs not being snobby about them. I'm so surprised you haven't started on 'Lazy' chocolate labs yet...............

The thread was about the current trend for "designer breeds" usually ending in "poo" and hybrid vigour and the supposed benefits of those crosses. Which appear to me to be the price tag per pup...Vicky explained it very well I think......

As for the pickers up speaking to or drinking with either the beaters or guns

now you are seriously extracting the urine..

I had presumed it was about money & the increased popular demand for such 'pets' that drives the prices up. I hadn't noticed anyone breeding these hybrids for the shooting field, sprockers aside.

I know that many will say we have arrived at the breeds that are popular by means of cross breeding. But I cannot for the life of me see reason to reinvent the wheel.

I don't have an issue with crossbreeds as an animal, but I do have an issue when the cross breeds are sold to people for exorbitant sums of money as somhow "better" than a pedigree as they don't shed or have any health problems
This is an interesting read for those interested

I have seen one or two interesting ones. During the war years in Rhodesia we owned two Great Dane/Ridgeback blends on the farm, which were most useful, but generally I'm dead against cross breeds.
