I pay around 15 pound a month on average my 3 spaniels have tripe, chicken carcasses and skinners working 23. I ensure 5 out of 7 days they have raw then top them up 2 days out of 7 on skinners.

Why feed what is allegedly best for your dogs then top it up with something which contains wheat, rice, barley and beet pulp? Doesn't that not defeat the object?

As always chose the best you can afford and if it suits the dog go with it, the dog will do well what ever you feed it if you follow those guidelines.

If the dog always has soft stools as in the OP's case then either the food doesn't suit, the dog is getting too much of it or the dog has something wrong with it.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

There are loads if old posts about dog food and most of the advice is buy the best you can afford,it doesn't always mean the most expensive but the cheaper stuff tends to be poorer quality with so much filler it is not much more to feed them higher quality food.
Look at quality of protein rather than how much and use a comparison site like whichdogfood to help.
There is a programme on channel 5 this Thursday about dog food which will be interesting

We found that the bone was not so finely minced as it used to be. Whilst this wasn't a problem for the labs and spaniels, it worried me a bit with the small JRTs as there were some quite large shards. Could have been a bad batch and had no other problems with the quality.

We use a middle man and are trying some alternative options.

My setters are fed raw - mainly Natural Instinct which is a complete (veg's etc included) and sometimes DAF minced oily fish or chicken necks.

If your dog has runny poos it's not doing well on what you are feeding. Try just feeding plain chicken for 3 weeks ( raw or cooked without bones) and see how it does on that. Then add in left over veggies from your meals and see how that goes.
