Makes no difference at all - the dog learns to respond to your whistle, not your pitch of whistle. We may all have the same pitch, but we all sound different when we blow it ;)
Well I had an old dog and she did get a bit confused with all the whistles in her old age.
But what your saying makes sense.

I know about stop whistle. But if he doesn't want to use a whistle. What other things could I do?
Back to basics it is I think!

I'm feeling bored this morning waiting in for a parcel so this is bound to get some response:
Shock Collar? well, won't use a whistle and I doubt running the dog down is a viable option.

Tell him to get some advice from a professional. He's already decided what he thinks is the best way to go, he will never respect your opinion because he already thinks he knows best - it's a sad fact but when people pay to get advice they listen to it a lot more closely.

Well, no whistle, won't be popular on a shoot if they shout at the dog so what's left, besides e-collar and / or training discs? Other than good running shoes and a pink Lycra suit.
Is this person intent on training his ESS for the gun or just as a non-chasing pet? And I agree with the others sounds like the kind of person who will only listen if he has to pay good money for the advice, there's a lot of it about!

Using a shock collar without training the required response first? No wonder folks want to see them banned.... So you let the dog loose among game and then shock it as it goes to chase the game, what is the dog going to associate the shock with? Game more than likely then you’ve given yourself a whole new set of problems...... :?

Surely if the dog is initially trained to the whistle then the dog learns the correct response to the flush, once it's got the whole picture of steady to flush, shot and then the retrieve then the whistle can be faded or am I missing something here?

If he's that worried about whistle pitch buy a hand made one , the pitch would be unique !

using a collar to stop a dog chasing without doing the training/response conditioning, will most likely result in a dog that not only doesn't chase, but is terrified to hunt. There is a reason people don't like e-collars, and it usually has very little to do with the collars.
