Hi
In my opinion best thing you could do is get in touch with a top local trainer i.e. Jon Bailey (
www.churchviewgundogs.co.uk), Will Clulee (
www.willcluleegundogs.co.uk), Ian Openshaw (
www.rytexgundogs.com) or Andy Whitehouse (
www.sugarbulletgundogs.co.uk) to name a few.
They are all top people and will assess you and your dog honestly. They all have rabbit pens and extensive grounds and will tell you how far or close you are to trialing. The more game that is shot over your dog the better, tests and trials are different propositions.
Good Luck

It doesn't sound like either the dog or the handler are ready for field trials. The op needs to get some experience of what shooting over a dog entails & his dog needs extensive experience of the shooting field before he contemplates trialing. To recommend that he enter himself & this dog for a trial is bonkers & is only taking up valuable trial spaces that a better prospect could take. Is the trials scene so short of competitors that we're desperate for anyone to run & fill the card?

And some would also argue that there is a lot of people who trial who have dogs in that shouldn't be in there at all
Hang on, that might be me yet!!!
