Cass, most of us use the KC site, you input the names and it works the coi out for you.

I've been searching for a stud for my girl for a while now but i'm struggling with finding a coefficiency less than 15%. The most common is 20%. If anyone has a mo maybe you could look at her pedigree and suggest a stud. I'd like to remain around the breed average of 10% and produce flawless trialing pups.

If we could avoid the patronising comments of "before you breed you have to consider, X, Y and Z and what do you plan to do with the pups etc?" that would be really good. (I've only said that because the last post I made with a similar question the reply was least helpful). The only two trials that I have entered the judges feedback were comments like , "she's a stormer" and "keep going you could make a champion of her". They were also very surprised that she's the first cocker I've ever trained, I'd only ran two trials and I had done it all without any assistance or help. So this gives an idea of the type of dog she is. She won a COM in her second trial.

She is Nantsannan Touch the Stars.

Sire FTCH Rowston Spikey x Dam FTW/FTAW NAntsannan Amemllia

and grandparents ......

Sire FTCH Orgest Yfwr x FTCH Rowston Serena Dam FTCH Mallowdale Zander x FTW/FTAW Nantsannan Snipe.

She is a small cocker at 8Kg's with a very athletic light framed build, very stylish, lots of drive and pace, hard as hell in cover, very good retriever. Preferably looking for a dog that is trial proven also small with no faults and has style, drive, pace, and a keen retriever.

Thank you in anticipation,

Lee

That's my concern. Think its time for some new blood. Does anybody know of any gamekeeper bred cockers that are free from modern trialing lines but could hold there own if trialled?
Bring in some good hunting stock.

Oh well I suppose that's not much good for a Canuck lol

There is an international database for cockers - here is the link http://www.cockerspanieldatabase.info/en/
You go to Find a Dog put your dog's name in and if he is in the database, the pedigree comes up with the COI already calculated.
If he is not in there, then you can add the pedigree details yourself and they will be verified by the webmasters.

Or you can set up a database such as Pedigree Explorer

Or you can slog it out by hand. On the data you have posted, your dog has a COI of 6.25% in a three generation pedigree, assuming only one common ancestor. But to get a meaningful result, you need to identify every common ancestor in at least a ten generation pedigree (2046 dogs) and for many cockers, there will be fewer than 400 unique dogs in a 10 gen, which is why the COI rakes up so quickly as you go from a 3 gen to a five gen to a 10 gen pedigree.

what are your reasons for wanting to breed the dog?
I knew there would be one that wouldn't be able to help themself. Sometimes questions like this appear judgemental, self righteous and elitist.
In the nicest possible way, I'm not looking for someone to help me out with reasons why I should or shouldn't breed from her. So when I say none of your business please try not to be offended.

Thank you all for inbox messages, emails and helpful replies to this topic. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Wasn't intended to be judgemental at all. Elitist, most certainly not. Yes, you're right, it's none of my business.

Deciding why you want to breed from your bitch is the easy bit, deciding what you want from the resulting pup and which stud dog to use to try and get that ephemeral "something" is the hard bit. And once you decide that you continue to make life harder by the other things, lower CoI, maybe health tested, a sound dog which will improve any physical imperfections your bitch has, quiet, biddable, quick, the list goes on!
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
