I have had a pair of Harkila's for about 3 years now. They took a while to become comfortable and like many other boots they feel a bit heavy to me but they are still going strong with minimum care from me, I think I have reproofed the leather just 3 or 4 times but it still remains waterproof.
I have fancied a pair of Red Setters for years .....like 40 years ! Maybe I'll get them next if I need a new pair of leather boots.

I bought a pair of Meindl Vakuum (
http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/meindl-mens ... ts-p106690 ) in August.
They have had a fair bit of use since then, stalking and beating, at least twice a week.
Although not a tall boot, coupled with a pair of Berghaus Yeti gaiters (
http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/berghaus ... r-b1712060 ) they have been an absolute pleasure to wear.
I paid £158 for the boots, from Go Outdoors, on a price match, - 10%
The gaiters were from ebay - £22.
Steve.

I used to love Meindls but moved away from them for my last pair.
Planning a pair of Lowa's next - if I can find a stockist anywhere nearby that keeps ladies ones in stock.

Ive got a pair of harkilas and a pair of those Black islanders , there are pros and cons on both counts , the Harkilas are like wearing a pair of slippers , coupled with the Boa lace system I find them to be superb, wore them in the summer heat without getting too hot and sweaty and so far kept my feet warm and ultimatley dry on cold days whilst giving me great ankle support
The blacksilanders are a bit heavy and dont give as much ankle support infact the ankle suport is a bit poor but they are very hard wearing and tottally waterproof but do get very hot and sweaty even on just a mild day
If your going to be doing a lot of bramble bashing the black islanders are the ones to go for but of ultimate comfort id go for the Harkila or Meindle

I believe you asked for recommendations for a low ankle boot?
Do a google search for 'Hanwag'. Note they have been making boots since 1921!
Now search for 'Hanwag Yukon' and particularly reviews of this model. They also do a slightly lighter boot; the Tatra.
Now start searching on 'Marktplaats' (Dutch classified ad site) and also German Ebay for bargains.
I just got a pair of Yukons direct from a seller in Holland. The boots were bought a month ago but didn't fit him. I bought them for £70 including postage.
Cheers, Terry

Terry, next time I want boots I think I will let you buy them for me !
Best buy I had this year is a pair of TF Gear waterproof boots . They come in two kinds, a cammo one that costs more because it is cammo

and green, I bought the green ones. All I wanted was a pair of lightweight boots that would "do a turn." The boots are waterproof to about the place where the tongue is no longer stitched in .....3- 5 inches of water causes no problems . They are very lightweight and yet are pretty tough , I've worn mine among all sorts of cover. They are not the most comfortable boots I have ever worn but I have done quite a lot of walking in them with no actual pain or foot problems. I have very wide feet , think flippers, and I always have problems with boot widths anyway.
I find myself wearing these boots more than I wear far more expensive ones because of their very light weight. They can be bought from Go Outdoors for about £44-45 .
I have only had them for about 6 months so I do not know how long they will last yet but they are doing fine so far and they look fine even at "posh" shoots.
