So he is, cracking dog, shame about the eyes, but I think I'm right in saying if your bitch is clear he'd be OK to use?............................ I can't believe I've just asked another question :o :o can't wait to see how this one's turns out :brickwall:

Yes he would (Cos that type of DNA test is more accurate!).

true tho :D

slightly of topic - but you should revisit FB now, to see the images added by Andy regarding the initial test to prove the accuracy of the test. it came back with an incorrect test result in the first instance.....

Kurt is just one of a number of FTCH/FTW studs that have sired PRA Cord 1 Carriers - just he has sired more than most so the odds are stacking up that he is an untested Carrier. If you put a dog up for stud, his physical attributes and temperament can be assessed by the bitch's owner, you might even be able to see the type of pups he is producing, but what you can't see is the hereditary agenda - fucosisosis while very rare is fatal (and a Carrier has been bred from recently!) PFK is also rare but debilitating in a pet and unacceptable in a working dog, and PRACord 1 is the most widespread and easy to deal with - just test the dog and if it is a Carrier, only put it to Clear bitches. That is where the money consideration comes in of course as the market is being restricted.......
Latest figures on the AHT website (updated to 16 Sept 2016) show that they have tested ESS for PRA Cord 1 with the following results:
Clear 1206 Carrier 481 Affected 52
These figures are not restricted to the UK and simply show there is a problem in the breed that responsible breeders should be addressing. In my view, having an untested stud siring hundreds of pups is not responsible breeding in 2017.

You didn't see the hereditary diseases cropping up that you see today. They have become more common, I suspect, through narrowing of gene pools and a lack if culling. RD, PRA and HD were about and people were beginning to test but all you saw in cockers and springers was Entropia. And that was pretty rare.

Also the gene pool is narrowing all the time so the diseases, which have alway been present, are more likely to appear because there is much less genetic diversity now than there was in the 60's and 70's.

This is why it is important to test and so Carriers are bred responsibly to Clears for the gene pool to be kept as wide as possible.
