i brought my game home for my training session and started the session with a few simple retrieves throwing the dummy out and recalling in for deliverance... no problems.i then threw out the rabbit a short distance and made him wait before casting him out..he ran out, got to the rabbit and started licking it and sniffing it.. i brought him back in and tried it again but the same happened again..is there a way/technique i can get him to pick it up and retrieve?

many thanks simon
You could try to throw it a short distance (i know, rabbits don't fly but..) and have your dog on leash. Then you walk your dog rather briskly on heel and as you are about to pass the rabbit you give the retrieve command, giving enough lenght of the leash for the dog to rush out to grab it but you walk on as briskly, tugging your dog along as you give the heel command again while pulling the dog with you and into the heel position again. If the dog then rushed out just to sniff and lick it will miss the retrieve. It's probably likely to do that the first tries so do the same again, throw the rabbit a short distance between each try if you want to increase the excitement about the rabbit, depends on what type of dog you got. The wanted thing is 'grab the rabbit quickly or miss out', don't stop and let your dog hang over the game or you will miss the point. You need a bit of timing but not terribly much so. Works for some, not for others, give it a try?
