Glad you enjoyed it Will and Jim.

I suppose this is where I receive and inbox from a mod telling me my latest comments add nothing to the thread and that they have been removed yet others are still up there.

You can tell the folk who know about spaniels because they appreciate the informative civilised opinions about trialling studs and offer positive thoughts to the thread.......no wonder opinions are expressed more via inbox!!

In general, as a rough rule of thumb, how far back in a pedigree would something you didn't like (this is addressed to anyone who is reading the thread because I know Grouse has found his dog and is happy with his choice) have to occur to be acceptable?

Maybe I'm just a naive newcomer, but surely if people didn't jump on stud bandwaggons ( :dance: sounds fun when you put it like that!) would you be in this pickle now? Again, I'm not having a pop at grouse (it's not 12th August yet!) but is the trials world in danger of becoming totally self-serving and self-obsessed and focussed on short-term success at the expense of losing it's original purpose - which I assume was to contribute to the improvement of the working gundog and the sport of shooting?

:evil: I know that's a bit of a devil's advocate sort of a question, but from the bits I've seen and read to date, I do wonder sometimes.

It's original purpose was to settle a bet, as for being in a pickle I don't believe it is. It's the same when any newcomer starts asking questions and they are always the same questions. In a couple of years time when they actually have first hand experience and knowledge they will know what they are talking about and already know what's about and what they like rather than just a few top names. There's no substitute for getting out and actually seeing it first hand.

["][quote="t jack"]I've found the thread quite interesting.[/quote!

So have I, I'm a dogs only guy so I don't breed, it's interesting to see views on breeding because it helps me look at future boys for me...

Outrageous someone should start a thread that runs for 10 pages.

Can every now please go and sit on your hands, write no more and should you feel the need to visit the forum, please just read the historical posts and refrain from posting new ones.

Everyone will be happy then, mods won't have to moderate anything and of course the forum will die.

tbh whatever people say, you've always got an answer for them as to why that dog's not what you're looking for...it's been an interesting thread but it's reaching the 'going in circles' point now. It seems like you're going to use Vatanen, and that seems like a good choice :)

I only had an answer for those who said use a certain dog that didn't fit the criteria/lines Alice because they hadn't read the initial post or further into the thread... Is it a crime to know why a certain dog doesn't suit your bitch!!!

I shall just not respond to them next time.......same old same old on here!!!

Always some one got a gripe!! Anyhow its got past its sell by date this now.......

On an additional note: If folk really digested and grasped a good understanding of what was initially asked they wouldn't have recommended dogs that didn't fit the bill, they were just going off the a popular dogs name or what it had produced, even though it lacked the attributes, what were asked for in the initial post. Which required a responses from me.
