Out wildfowling this morning and a snipe dropped in about 20 ft from me and attempted to hide in the sea weed. Was so engrossed watching him hide in the sea weed and admire his his beautiful cammoflage , I missed 12 wigeon that swung in and thought better of it. They were out of range before I noticed them and the snipe got fed up with me watching him and flushed . Never fired a shot but it made me smile. :-D

My old boy Glen - thirteen and a half - went to the vet last week as he was not walking well. Big check over and X-rays. Basically old age taking its toll re the walking but the X-rays showed a tumour on the spleen. I decided a long time ago no 'heroics' on my oldies so he is on palliative care and getting spoiled rotten. Why did I smile? Took him out on the lead to toilet and the gorgeous cocker bitch next door was out too. He dragged me 50 yards over to the fence, ground was so wet I was bog skating, and he did his very best Leslie Phillips "Well.....Hello...." Life in the old guy still!

Looking at the pup I bred and kept - and thinking - yes, I got it right he is exactly what I had hoped for. :-)

House insurers agreeing to pay out £900 to replace one of the three diamonds in her engagement ring that she somehow managed to lose (for the second time in twenty years)

Just came in from a quick hunt and my 8 year old GSP saved the afternoon, yet again, by a brilliant piece of work on a moving cock pheasant. She picked up the fresh line on her first cast up a field of rushes and bog while I was still climbing over the fence and tracked it a good way while I headed over before stopping for me to catch up. A hare moved off well upwind and it crossed my mind she might be on that but she never flinched from her work and walked me in confidently until the bird ran out of cover and made a run for it across open ground before taking flight. Dropped it first barrel. She did exactly the same earlier in the week but finished by holding it on point until I walked in and shot the flush. And I never needed to say a word to her from start to finish. She's developed into a wizard on moving birds. They always remind me of the first time she showed me the stuff she was made of by working her first moving cock bird when just 5 months old. You can't teach a dog that type of stuff. :-D
