Great news Bill !

Both of you must be a bit thin after this ordeal.

Lay low for awhile.

Stihl090 (Simon) has put his comment on the LostDog thread but can't login here to send you his best wishes - so passing them on for him.
So very, very pleased that Edge is home!
thank you Enid,
sorry not to have posted sooner, builders have removed our phone socket, limiting me to a very poor mobile signal and little to no internet.
every couple of hours when my phone would allow or load a page i was checking in, like other people sitting on the edge of my seat.
so glad that he is now back home, a good bowl of food, a nice whiskey for you Bill and a well earned rest.
i will enjoy the new chapter of the diary when back on track

I'm glad you wrote that Alice. I'd intended saying exactly the same thing in last nights long report about having found him but I forgot. I was too tired and too excited to think straight ..... I drove my car into a hedge on our way home with him ..... I wasn't even seeing the road !
People I've never met or heard of have been searching that area and for many miles all around it . It did renew my rather worn faith in human nature. When it mattered , people helped.
I thought I'd sleep better last night , I'd only slept for about 7 hours during the time he was lost. I still didn't get to sleep last night , my mind was too active and my body was too sore. My wife slept well on the sofa until Edge nudged her awake just before 5 a.m. He wanted out so she took him into the garden to perform.....no mess on the floor ! He woke her up again 2 hours later for the same reason.
His stomach was pretty full when we found him last night ......full of "Arden Grange !" He had been raiding a nearby large dog kennels for food on his nightly forays. I'd left Arden Grange out for him in several places but those were the wrong places . The food I'd left was untouched except by slugs.
He has a coat full of small burrs and he seems to have injured one hind leg in some way ....probably wrenched a muscle. I will take him to the vet on Monday once he has settled in again here.
He now has a fear of humans he did not have before. Possibly the well meaning folk out looking for him had made him feel hunted ? He is fine with me and my wife but he moves away from any strangers. I will be taking him to obedience classes in order to let him see large dogs under controlled conditions.
Exactly how this bad experience will affect him as a gundog I do not know yet.
For three days I have worn the same clothes in order to attract Edge to a familiar scent. Within one hour of me getting up this morning my wife declared they were "mingin " and had them in the wash. She didn't stop there either, she also declared me "mingin even worse than the clothes" and popped me into a Radox bath ! I hadn't showered since Wednesday morning and once he got lost I had no intention of losing any of my scent by washing.
Since I have walked and climbed miles since Wednesday over and through some pretty rough places I suppose I was a bit whiffy.

I'm not a religious person but i did say a couple of silent prayers for you and I had goosebumps and a tear reading he had been found - cannot be happier for you! Maddie is sat on the back of the sofa leaning over my shoulder reading this as i type and i have told her he has been found and i swear she smiled !!
Now you and the missus have a rest - you have deserved it !

Tomorrow I hope to leave Edge at home then visit the lady who helped so much to find and to catch him. Not many women ....or men for that matter, would search through pitch black woods at night for a dog. I've got a couple of small presents for her and I sincerely hope she has been sticking it well and truly to her husband who had told her she had no chance of finding Edge !
She seemed to be just about as pleased as I was to have found Edge last night. There's not many like her around.
I have neglected my dogging-in job almost all of this week. If I can summon up enough energy I'll do some of that tomorrow but with Libby and Charlie ......not Edge !
Edge is making the most of us not wanting to give him a row for anything. He is now counter surfing and climbing onto my lap every chance he gets.

You have three fantastic ladies there: Mrs Trekmore (aka Soup Dragon) who did total support, your daughter Fiona who did the internet stuff (and searching) and the brave lady who wrestled in the dark with an unknown dog who could have bit her to pieces - you are a realy lucky guy!
