Re: AMS in cockers.
Edited as had listed dogs test results which were on the database, have now removed as said owner thinks this is "overstepping the mark"
if you are interested on the carriers/affected dogs.
register on the Cocker spaniel database. go to find dog, click on advanced search.
on the left it has boxes for different conditions/diseases scroll to near the bottom, there is a Box for AMS, in that box has things like "carrier" "clear" "carrier b.p" etc. select all the carriers, and "affected" then hit search, should work.
all the info is there in the public domain to see.

It would be nice if you would let us post our own details. I have never made any secret of the fact that my bitches are carriers but there are Facebook sites dealing with this as well and I can't be everywhere at once as well as day to day living. I also had to make a phone call to someone who doesn't test and probably never will (unless the KC insists which it won't) to let them know names were being put out in public which may surprise them as they, like many others, don't do computers - not everyone knows about AMS despite our best efforts and three cases in two years hardly makes an epidemic. Several of us have been working on this for over a year to try and get the facts right and published in the proper manner - and yes I am impatient and unimpressed with people who are denying there is a problem and have been very tempted to name names - but the time hasn't been right.
Scotish I think you have overstepped the mark because I gave you that info in a pm and put you right on your suppositions so you know that and anyone can see for themselves on the CSDB.
Beechessum - which dam are you querying as tested clear?

Re: AMS in cockers.
As you say, the info is on CSDB - and is available to anyone publicly as you have allowed them to do so by offering the test results to have them put there.
if you feel its over the mark then i will edit my post.

Re: AMS in cockers.
Yes all the information is there on the Cocker Spaniel Database for all to see. Nothing hidden by those of us honest enough to admit that our dogs carry an inherited condition. AMS has been submitted to the Kennel Club for inclusion on the recommended list of tests and is on the Cocker Spaniel Club website.
However all this speculation as to where it has come from is doing noone any favours. what's done is done.
It would seem that it has originated many generations ago and, with the nature of autosomal recessive genes, it has spread far and wide and those of us caught up in it have been very unlucky. It is therefore important that from now on anyone intending to breed from their dog - male or female - should test it first and at the very least ensure that at least one of them is clear. The ideal is for both to be clear so no more carriers are produced because to keep producing untested carriers will only result in more unexpected affected pups. This would be totally irresponsible now that there is a test available.
So please keep talking about AMS. Get testing before breeding from your dogs and then YOU will be out of any future firing lines.

Re: AMS in cockers.
People will always be curious re the source of these kinds of problems, its just natural human behaviour. However, until loads more dogs are tested we won't be sure about anything. Don't think there is any kind of witch hunt and nobody should be 'in the firing line' for breeding carriers at this early stage when so few people know about it / test for it. Its not a name and shame thing its getting information out into the public domain. The more we know the sooner it can be dealt with.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Re: AMS in cockers.
I'd say there were more than 3 cases, ever. I think it has slipped through the net previously and gone undiagnosed
