Would you actually want hair like Bo-Jo's?

Maybe not as bad as skunk - I wouldn't know - but my young Flatcoat disappeared behind a bush at the start of a two hour training class and came back covered from head to foot in fox excrement. I had to stand 20 yards away downwind of the class the entire afternoon then travel for an hour homewards with her spreading shite and fumes in the back of the car. But hey! That was OK we were in my Sister's.

Hold on, next you'll be telling me your Sis is Princess Pushy of Kent, and that it's more than OK, it's an utterly delightful outcome. But before you go into that, speaking of Flatties (Flatties that weren't), did we ever find out the identity of the Italian nobleman with the Gordon setters as sought by Dottora di Palma?

Ian, in the pigeon video, Eze is really not delivering to you but going to her spot in the hide. Though it is not really important ‘why’ but what is, is what she is doing: not delivering.

Going back to her behavior on other retrieves; well a dummy is not high value and there is a good chance you’ll throw it again (high value). In contrast, the pheasant is most likely a coveted retrieve and she has it and you want it and it’s unlikely you’ll throw it again.

If it was me, and I wanted to fix the hesitations then I would work with pheasants until the fault dries up. The thing is, the solution doesn’t have to be complicated, mind blowing or require the insight of Pavlov, though the latter wouldn’t hurt. :geek:

I think that is a sound enough observation newf 👍

I have inadvertently deleted the vid (was sposed to be deleting another one..doh) will try and upload again later
I'll wait then
By heck you can't say I'm not patient, four months
Having now seen the video and the subsequent ones, I have to say I think newf has it spot on. Its just a mild possession thing as the `readjustment' on the first two occurred at roughly the same distance in the return, and with the first one there was no need to readjust, in fact she made it worse. The returning of the pigeon to her spot, for me just confirms this.
When I commented `blind' a few pages back I mentioned praising the dog whilst at work in a similar fashion to training. You weren't lacking in that department Ian....but as an observation, were you praising the retrieve that you want? or her version of it? :)
Personally, for your first `gundog' she is a credit to you, and I would not be concerned, in fact I would be wary of trying to correct it as you can create a bigger problem by trying  ( I somehow think from all your posts that is not going to stop you giving it a go    ) As newf said concentrate on encouraging the speed of delivery maybe adding an extra return whistle as she gets to that `thinking' distance ;)

I agree Munstyman, he has come a very long way from thinking he might as well chuck a few dummies for the dog in his first post! What did he do with his time before he got Eze

MM,
I had forgotten about this thread until re discovering it, as you say good job your patient 😁 vids, good and bad have proven to be most beneficial as a sort of virtual one to one or rather one to many 😁 i tried putting a whistle in on the return and it did seem to work. Funny why she doesn't do it with pigeon though 🤔 i am not overly bothered by it per se but it does look rather sloppy so i will have to try and cure it one way or tuther.
Thank you for your kind words 👍

Nick
She has certainly given me a great deal of enjoyment along the way and its been interesting learning as much as i can from her. Still lots to learn but there is no substitute for experience. Thanks for your kind words.
