The camera doesn't lie
Have you successfully trained a dog by clicker and positive only training and proofed it in the shooting field Wendy?
I would genuinely like to more how you achieved this :-p
I am always open to all techniques and training scenarios as you probably know by now, As I use multiple tools ,
How did the preparation fair ? on that first day at a shoot as opposed to other methods ?

I don't know where you are in the country, I would be interested if a dog trained through a 'Positive only' regime would react to a 'traditional technique?
and vice versa?...In a live game situation..(with pre conditioning of course) If you are up to the gauntlet?
I have the game...And the dogs.

Game has a different perspective to all the gun dog breeds as they 'predate' on it. This is when training really starts (imo)

My current lab is the only dog I have taken this far with "positive" training. The other dogs we have, have been trained with a mix of traditional and positive techniques. she is not ready for the shooting field yet. I will be introducing her to a shoot day this pheasant season.

I'm sure a "positive" trained dog would respond to a "traditional" technique and vice versa. But once trained you should not (in theory) be able to tell how they were trained.

Me nor my dog are ready for that level of scrutiny yet - but when we are I'll let you know!

As I've stated before though - I'm not against traditional techniques, I just want to try to positive methods and so far - so good.

How did it perform on a shoot for the first time?

If you don't mind a bit of travel I would take you up on a shoot.

Can you also get Robt. an audition for the Scots version of "Swamp People" whilst he's over there? They's calling it Moor Folk. And he'll also need to sign that conservation covenant about only shooting nutria when they smile at him with their orange teeth...
