The breeder from near aylesbury that we got our two from had both our springers docked and chipped at a Chipping Norton vet, we have the original certificate for both (they are three months apart in age born in 2010), the bitch we got at nine months old and she came with her docking certificate that he must have got back when he took her back at 7 months, these are both linked to the microchip number on them. The youngster we got a 9 weeks already chipped.

a lot of vets chip when they dock at 2/3 days old which to my way of thinking is not necessary .. I have mine done at 12 weeks which is the limit !!! on occation when i do breed the odd litter i get the new owners of surplus pups to sign a declaration that they will get their pup chipped by 12 weeks of age.

A law that is meant to make animal welfare better has made it worse for the animal. A good law IF you take away the part that force/allow people to chip their dogs so early, especially when so young. I find it hard but know it to be true that their are vets out there that force you to have the chipping done before the pups leave their mum, No reason for them to do so except money and easeshanagan wrote:a lot of vets chip when they dock at 2/3 days old which to my way of thinking is not necessary .. Thank god I have good vets who put the welfare of my dogs before the welfare of their pockets

don't know if this link will work on the same site but a new thread has been started by Vicky Payne on this subject asking for people views on chipping because of comments she had read on this thread. Thought you might like to see/par take in it

Re: Tail Docking & Dew Claws Etc.
We pay £6-£10 + VAT for docking depending on the size of the litter plus £10 + VAT for the paperwork and the vet nurse to do the microchipping, we supply the microchips, as my wife has done the microchipping course, the vet nurse comes to our house when the pups are 6-7 weeks old.
Our vet won't give us the paperwork until the pups are chipped and if they weren't done he'd never dock any pups for us again.
We send the paperwork on with the pup when its sold.
